MIDNIGHT SPRINGS reimagines the Frankenstein mythos. Universal monster movies created a shared world, and this book imagines that world transported to the Wild West, mixing classic characters with new, iconic American creatures.
Victor Frankenstein sits dirty and starving in a Colorado jail cell, arrested for graverobbing. Refusing to speak, Victor counts the minutes until his creature, the Patchwork Man, will rescue him. Trying to force a confession, a crooked sheriff dumps a blood-soaked prisoner, Red Drum, into Victor’s cramped cell. The new prisoner claims he’s the world’s greatest actor and a werewolf. Red is neither, but the monster inside him is all too real and the clock is ticking until his next transformation.
After their botched jailbreak starts the historic 1896 Cripple Creek fire, Victor and Red must run for their lives. The men become unlikely friends as they are pursued by a dark bounty hunter from the secret town of Midnight Springs. With Red’s help, Victor, a man who only believes in what can be proven, opens his mind to the unseen world of magic. The pair travel to Midnight Springs looking for answers, but instead find the very people responsible for their chance meeting. Both men go on parallel journeys of self-discovery, eventually turning them into bitter rivals destined for a Wild West showdown.
